Kolkata: At least six activists were injured when the ruling TMC and main opposition BJP supporters clashed at Kumirmari under Gosaba block in election-bound West Bengal's South 24 Parganas, police said on Tuesday.

Official sources said the Coastal Police of the Sundarbans were investigating the reasons as to why the clashes happened between the rival political activists on Monday evening.

The TMC and BJP were blaming each other for the violence ahead of the poll in a bid to intimidate their opponents during the campaign.

Both parties have lodged complaints with the Coastal Police Station.

The six injured, from both sides, were admitted into a local primary health facility with minor wounds, police added.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to report to the ECI on a regular basis the method of route march on the armed personnel from March 29 onwards.

West Bengal goes through a seven-phase voting process starting from April 19 to June 1, 2024, for the 42 Lok Sabha seats across the state.

A copy of the reports would also be given to state election authorities, sources said.
