New Delhi: Biting the bullet finally, Bharti Airtel on Monday announced to raise pre-paid mobile tariffs in the range of 20-25% with effect from November 26, 2021.

Accordingly, the minimum monthly recharge plan of Rs 79 would now cost Rs 99. The other plans of varying validities have also been increased adding to the monthly phone bills of consumers.

The telecom major has also increased data top-up rates.

As per the new rates, data top-up which currently costs Rs 48 would be available for Rs 58, up 21% from November 26.

In its statement, Bharti Airtel said that the mobile Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) needs to be at Rs 200 and ultimately at Rs 300, so as to provide a reasonable return on capital that allows for a financially healthy business model.

"We also believe that this level of ARPU will enable the substantial investments required in networks and spectrum. Even more important, this will give Airtel the elbow room to roll out 5G in India," the telecom major said.

The company further said that as a first step it is taking the lead in rebalancing tariffs during the month of November.

"Accordingly our new tariffs as indicated below will come into effect from November 26, 2021," Bharti said. (UNI)
