As divorce rates rise, Goa makes premarital counselling mandatory

Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa on Thursday expressed disagreement with state government's decision to make premarital counselling mandatory in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Goa BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanvade said the party was opposed to the idea of premarital counselling and he had already spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on the issue.

He said that premarital counselling would create hassle for the couples going for marriage.

Recently, Goa Law Minister Nilesh Cabral had said that said that premarital counselling would be made compulsory in the state in view of rising number of divorces.

He had claimed that divorces were taking place within six months to one year of marriage. (UNI)
