Guwahati: Assam police has arrested a girl from Nalbari district in Assam for allegedly posting a Whatsapp status mocking Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the cattle protection bill.
Police arrested Pakiza Begum from her residence in the Komarkuchi area in Nalbari district.
Pakiza in her Whatsapp status allegedly wrote a message offering ‘beef’ to chief minister Sarma.
Police arrested her after the screenshot of the Whatsapp status circulated on social media.
After the incident came to light, Nalbari unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) registered a FIR terming the post controversial which could create communal disharmony.
“We have registered a ‘suo moto’ case against the girl and arrested her. However, later the girl was released on bail,” police said.
The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021, was introduced in the Assam Assembly recently, and seeks to regulate cattle slaughter in the state. (UNI)
