Fake ‘Baba’ called girl’s neck pain the evil spirit of her uncle, took her to jungle for healing and raped her, arrested

Thane: Three persons including a fake ‘Baba’ have been arrested by the Narpoli police under the Bhiwandi division on the alleged charges of practicing black magic and rape on her, the police said.

A senior police officer from Thane police told this correspondent that the sixteen year old victim was taken to a jungle by a fake ‘Baba’ under the pretext of healing her and raped her, the police said.

Based on the complaint by the victim, the police arrested the fake ‘baba’. The mother of the victim and her acquaintance were also arrested. The man referred the fake ‘Baba’ to the victim’s mother.

The girl suffered from severe neck pain. It was some two years back the paternal uncle had died. The fake ‘Baba’ informed her that he has to practice some rituals on her to wade out the evil spirit of the uncle on her and took her to the jungle and raped her. Her mother and the man known to her took the girl to the fake ‘Baba’ for the ‘treatment’, it was stated.

The police gave the name of the arrested fake ‘Baba’ as Shantaram Jivdya Shelke, 61 a resident of Padgha in Bhiwandi. The mother and the other man have also been arrested but their names were not revealed for specific reasons.

Offences under sections 376 of the IPC, POCSO Act sections 4,8, and 12, and THE MAHARASHTRA PREVENTION AND ERADICATION OF HUMAN SACRIFICE AND OTHER INHUMAN, EVIL AND AGHORI PRACTICES AND BLACK MAGIC ACT, 2013 has been registered against the arrested accused the police said.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Zone is probing further into the case it was stated. (UNI)
