Hardcore Naxal, carrying reward of Rs 5 Lakh, dies in Chhattisgarh encounter

Dantewada: Notching up a major success in the epic war against Left-wing extremism, Chhattisgarh Police on Sunday neutralised Malangir Area Committee Member Santosh Markam during an hour-long gun-battle within the Pordem forest - a Maoist den on the Sukma-Dantewada district border.

“The rebel was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh. We received a tip-off that hardliner outlaws Jailal, Rajesh, Mukesh and others were present in the jungle. Subsequent to the firefight, a pistol and a heavy quantum of daily-use items were appropriated from the scene,” Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav said. (UNI)
