Hours after resigning from Congress, Sushmita Dev joins TMC

New Delhi: Former Lok Sabha MP Sushmita Dev joined the All India Trinamool Congress on Monday, hours after resigning from the Congress.

All India Trinamool Congress, in a tweet from its official account, announced her joining and welcomed her to the party.

"We warmly welcome the former President of All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev to our Trinamool family!" the All India Trinamool Congress said.

The tweet said Dev was inspired by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

She joined TMC in the presence of party leaders Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O'Brien.

Dev announced her resignation from the Congress on Monday morning.

In her resignation letter to interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi, she thanked the Congress leader for her guidance and opportunities.

She said she was about to "begin a new chapter" of "public service". (UNI)
