Kolkata: Indian Secular Front (ISF) legislator Naushad Siddique was detained on Tuesday by city police near Science City in south Kolkata on his way to Sandeshkhali.

He was on his way to Sandeshkhali to meet the people, especially the women, who were allegedly being sexually harassed and lost farming land by TMC Shahjahan Sheikh, who has been evading arrest since January 5.

Thirty-one-year-old chairman of the Indian Secular Front, Pirzada Mohammad Naushad Siddique, claimed arrest by police and explained why chief minister Mamata Banerjee was scared by opposition leaders' visit to the restive Sandeshkhali.

The legislator from Bhangar alleged that he was arrested in the city on the pretext of the prohibitory orders at Sandeshkhali, which is some 70 km away in North 24 Parganas.
Police took the ISF MLA into a prison van to curtail his proposed visit to Sandeshkhali.

Police said he was taken into the van under CRPC Section 151.
