ITBP imparting Judo training to local schoolchildren in Chhattisgarh, won 112 medals so far

New Delhi: The Indo-Tibetan Border police (ITBP) has been imparting Judo training local schoolchildren in Kondagaon district in Chhattisgarh and these children have won 112 medals so far in various national level tournaments and competitions.

These schoolchildren have been groomed and trained by the jawans of 41st Battalion ITBP wherein two jawans of the Battalion have been training some 200 local boys and girls in Judo in four batches daily for about five hours.

Constable Jakir Hassan started the Judo training under the guidance of the Commandant Surinder Khatri in October, 2016 as a free of cost training facility with the basic available resources in a room of a pre-matric boys Hostel building with only 15 to 16 schoolchildren.

So far, the ITBP trained 161 schoolchildren have participated in various national level competitions till now.

Yogesh Sori had won a Bronze medal in 2018 at under-14 national Judo in 35 kg U-14 weight category. Anil Kumar had won a Bronze medal in 40 kg category in Judo national in Imphal in 2019 while. Shivani had won Gold in U-14 category in 2019 in a national competition.

The ITBP has been in the forefront of naxal affected Kondagaon District where it is training local schoolchildren in the field of Hockey, Judo and Archery. Since 2016, it has trained more than 500 local schoolchildren in various sports, the ITBP officials said. (UNI)
