Bengaluru: A case of abduction has been lodged against Raichur BJP MLA Shivaraj Patil, police said here on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, Patil has been allegedly named in the kidnapping of Shainaaz Begum to make her abstain from voting in the Raichur Corporation Presidential election scheduled Wednesday.

The "abductee" is a member of Raichur Corporation. MD Ali, her son and the complainant in the case, alleged his mother was kidnapped from a private hospital where she was undergoing treatment. She was admitted to the hospital on March 26, he said.

At the time of the alleged kidnapping, Shainaaz's other son Mohammad Alam and his mother-in-law were in the hospital, the complainant stated.

On Tuesday Shainaaz's cell phone was switched off and when he tried to contact his brother and mother-in-law, their cellphones too were switched off, Ali said.

On enquiry, the hospital authorities said all the three were whisked away in a white car, he added.

"If anything happens to my mother and family members, Patil will be held responsible. My family members should be immediately rescued and legal action be initiated against the BJP MLA and his followers," Ali said.

The CCTV footage revealed that the car belonged to Patil, Ali complained and said that several calls to the BJP MLA and his followers have gone unanswered. (UNI)
