Karnataka: Man stabs electricity bill collector over excess power bill in Kodagu dist

Madikeri: Frustrated over high electricity bill, a man stabbed a bill collector at Sowarper taluk in Kodagu district.

The incident took place when Rateesh, a resident, picked up a dust up with Prashant, the bill collector, after getting agitated over substantial increase in his electricity bill.

Prashant clarified to Ratheesh that he was not responsible for the hike in the electricity bill and asked him to visit the office to raise his concerns.

However, Rateesh insisted on Prashant to call up the junior engineer in the power department, but the latter sought the reading number from him.

As Parashant tried to click a photo of the electricity meter, Ratheesh started to abuse the bill collector in a filthy language, and allegedly stabbed him with a knife.

Prashant as of now is undergoing treatment at Madikeri district hospital. The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. (UNI)
