Karnataka: No re-exam for those who boycotted over hijab

Karnataka: No re-exam for those who boycotted over hijab
, Monday, 21 March 2022 (17:47 IST)
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has said that pre-university students who boycotted practical examinations by participating in pro-hijab protests will not get a chance to appear in the re-examination.

Earlier, the government had hinted at allowing the students to take the re-examination.

However, on Sunday, it clarified that the students marked absent during the examinations will not get another chance.

Education Minister B C Nagesh said the government cannot allow students who boycotted the examinations to appear for re-examination.

"If we allow these students to appear for re-examination, then other students will make similar demands citing some other reasons to seek a second chance," he said.

Practical exams carry 30 marks out of 100 in board exams in Karnataka.

The hijab row hit headlines in February as some Muslim girl students insisted on wearing hijab during teaching hours inside the classrooms. (UNI)
