Kaziranga National Park to open for visitors from Oct 1

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that from October 1 Kaziranga National Park will be opened for tourists and visitors as the state government is working towards unlocking of COVID restrictions completely for the normalisation of economic activities.

“I would also like to inform you that from 1st October we are opening Kaziranga National Park for tourists and visitors as our Govt is working towards unlocking Covid restrictions completely for the normalisation of economic activities,” Mr Sarma said while speaking at a Rhino Horn burning ceremony in Bokhakhat.

1In addition a 15-km road has been reopened for tourists at Bagcher Hills in the National Park.

An UNESCO Heritage Site KNP was closed in May during the second wave of the COVID pandemic.

The Director of the park, Karmashree P. Sivakumar, said that since the park-cum-tiger reserve was reopened on October 21 last year, as many as 1,98,595 tourists, including 570 foreign nationals, have visited KNP in the six months till April 21.

Normally, the tourism season of the park ends in May before the arrival of the monsoon and opens up by October every year. (UNI)
