Liquor-mixed with cyanide : Elder bro's bid to end life, takes one's life, younger bro battling for life

Chennai: In a tragic incident, a person, who has planned to end his life by mixing liquor laced with cyanide and had hidden the bottle in his house, inadvertently consumed the life of his younger brother near Mulluvadi Gate in Salem district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
 
Police said the friend of 39-year-old deceased, who also consumed the liquor, was battling for life.
 
Both of them were unaware that the liquor was mixed with cyanide.
 
Police said it was an accidental incident as the deceased, on seeing the cyanide-mixed liquor that was hidden in a cupboard by his elder brother at his house, consumed it and died.
 
The elder brother Asser Hussein (36) in a bid end his life following a tiff with his wife left cyanide-mixed with liquor and hid the bottle in his cupboard.
 
In an impulsive urge on seeing the liquor bottle, his younger brother Saddam Hussein (32) took it to a local Tasmac bar and consumed it along with his friend Asen (39).
 
The duo soon fainted and were taken to the Salem Government Hospital, where Asen died, while Saddam was battling for life.
 
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
