Modi's vision for New India will create jobs in US

Modi's vision for New India will create jobs in US
, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 (16:55 IST)
Washington: In a new spin to Donald Trump’s India-US job narrative, his press Secretary Sean Spicer has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a New India would also create jobs in the US. ‘’US energy and technologies, including natural gas are helping to build Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a New India and creating thousands of jobs in the process,’’ Mr Spicer told reporters here while announcing Mr Modi’s visit to the country on June 25-26.

The remarks of the Press Secretary come amidst prevailing worry in India over Mr Trump’s plans to curb outsourcing and regulate H1b visa which would badly hurt Indian professionals seeking jobs in the US. Mr Spicer also said that the India-US trade had grown six-fold since 2000 from 19-billion to 115-billion in 2016, and noted the Indian economy was growing at over 7 per cent.

During the visit, the two leaders would look to outline 'a common vision for the US-India partnership that is worthy of their 1.6-billion citizens,' he said. 'The President looks forward to discussing ways to strengthen ties between the United States and India and to advance our common priorities: fighting terrorism, promoting economic growth and reforms, and expanding security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region,' he said.

This will be Mr Trump’s first meeting with Mr Modi, who was invited by him when he called him up in January to congratulate him on taking over the Presidency. Yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs, while announcing Mr Modi’s US visit and his meeting with Trump had said, 'Their discussions will provide a new direction for deeper bilateral engagement on issues of mutual interest and consolidation of multi-dimensional strategic partnership between India and the US.'
