Municipal councillor, PSO killed, another injured in Sopore attack

Baramulla: A councillor of Sopore Municipal Committee (SMC) Reyaz Ahmad and his Personnel Security Officer (PSO) were killed and another person was injured in a suspected militant attack in apple township of Sopore in this north Kashmir district on Monday, official sources said.

They said Councillor was on his way to the SMC office near Dak Bungalow when suspected militants attacked his vehicle with automatic weapons.

Reyaz and his SPO identified as Mushtaq Ahmad and another person were injured in the attack, they said adding the injured were immediately rushed to hospital.

The councillor and his SPO later succumbed while another was referred to Srinagar hospital in a critical condition.

Troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, and CRPF immediately cordoned off the entire area and launched a massive search operation.

Traffic on the main Sopore was disrupted due to the attack.

Business and other activities were affected due to the attack. (UNI)
