Agartala: Police launched a massive search and issued an alert on all the railway stations and the police pickets on the Assam-Agartala National Highway on Thursday morning following a complaint of missing a half-month-old child of a resident, near Agartala railway station are under Amtali police station limit of the city.

Police said one Krishan Das complained that his newly born son went missing from his bedroom on Thursday morning when he and his wife Purnima Das were working outside. About half an hour later, Purnima went to the room and found her son was missing from the bed. She had gone for housekeeping and left the son asleep along with her one-year-old elder son.

The family members immediately issued an alarm in the locality and launched a search in nearby areas. Getting information about the child missing, a police team from Amtali police station reached the house and conducted a search inside and nearby areas of the house but were left clueless. The people suspected that the infant might have been stolen by a child lifter gang, as some locals claimed that an unknown couple on a motorbike was seen in the locality early in the morning.

However, the police couldn’t rule out the possibility of personal enmity of the family with some neighbours. Meantime, police, apprehending the involvement of a child-lifting gang in the incident, issued alerts in all the railway stations of Tripura and highways and also notified the matter on the social media platform seeking input on the alleged kidnapping.
