Thane: With the arrest of one person, the Thane police claimed to have solved the case of alleged attack on buffaloes at a cattle shed (tabela) in Bhiwandi town of the district recently.
On May 15, between 0130 and 0530 hours, unidentified person/s had attacked the buffaloes at the shed, killing seven of them and severely injured 13 others, police said.
Considering the seriousness of the crime, an offence under section 429 of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act had then been registered with the Nizampura police station of the town.
Acting on a tip off, a police team laid a trap Friday night at Bunder Mohalla, Khadipar and nabbed alleged accused while moving in a suspicious manner.
The alleged accused was identified as Fazal Hussein Rafique Ahmed Qureshi (20, from Kasai Wada of Bhiwandi).
According to police, accused Qureshi had a long-standing financial dispute with the cattle shed owner over the dealings.
Hence, he wanted to teach him a lesson ,and hence he attacked the cattle in the middle of night.
The arrested accused was produced before a local magistrate, who remanded him into police custody till May 24, sources added. (UNI)
