Srinagar: A ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader who was shot at and critically wounded by militants in Srinagar and four civilians injured in a grenade blast in south Kashmir are out of danger. Meanwhile, security forces and police have launched a manhunt to nab the militants responsible for both the attacks, official sources said here today. They said the militants shot at and critically wounded a local leader of PDP Abdul Qayoum Wani near his Barzulla house in the uptown last night. Mr Wani was immediately rushed to SMHS hospital, where he was operated upon by the doctors.

Mr Wani has received three bullets, including one in the stomach, they said adding he was out of danger now. This was the first attack on any political party leader in summer capital, Srinagar. However, on April 24, president of PDP for south Kashmir district of Pulwama Abdul Gani Dar was shot dead by militants in his native village Rohomo, while a week earlier a lawyer Imtiyaz Ahmad and a Ikhwan commander allegedly involved in several civilian killings Rashid Billa were killed at Pinjoora in Shopian and Hajin in Bandipora respectively. Meanwhile, four civilians injured in a grenade blast in Shopian last night are also out of danger.

The militants hurled a hand grenade towards a camp of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police at Imam Sahib Shopian. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded outside the camp, resulting in injuries to four civilians who were treated in the hospital. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for these attacks. Meanwhile, security forces called off operation in three villages and orchards in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. The operation was launched last evening and called off late in the night, they said, adding that no one was arrested during the operation. (UNI)
