Srinagar: Security forces today burst teargas shells to disperse students in Srinagar, demonstrating against the use of alleged disproportionate force on students, including girls, in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama. Meanwhile, scores of students, besides security force personnel, were injured in the clashes. Hundreds of students of SP College took to the streets at M A road in the city to protest against use of alleged disproportionate force by security forces on students, including girls, at Degree College Pulwama on Saturday.
 

However, when the students tried to march towards Lal Chowk, security force deployed in the area burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were regrouping and pelting stones. Around 40 students, including girls, were injured when security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were protesting against a checkpoint established by forces outside the camps of Degree College Pulwama on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Degree College Pulwama has been closed for two days from today in view of the prevailing situation. According to the District Magistrate Pulwama, Government Degree College (Boys) Pulwama will remain closed on April 17 and 18. “It was informed that the step has been taken in view of certain unavoidable circumstances,” a spokesperson said. He said the students of the college were informed that no classes will be held on the aforementioned dates. (UNI)
