Sources say Punjab Congress' revamp is in cards, Will Navjot Singh Sidhu be made state chief?

New Delhi: Former Uttarakhand chief minister and AICC general secretary in-charge for Punjab Harish Rawat here on Thursday said a truce between Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu will be reached soon as the party was working on a formula to accommodate both the leaders.

"We are working out a formula where both the Chief Minister and Mr Sidhu could work together," Mr Rawat told mediapersons.

However, the veteran Congress leaders stated that the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections will be contested in the leadership of Capt Amarinder, who will also continue to remain the chief minister of the state.

"Amarinder will continue as Chief Minister and the party will go to polls in his leadership," Mr Rawat said.

As per sources, the revamp of the Punjab unit of Congress is in cards and the party might also announce the new chief of the Punjab Congress Committee.

Earlier this week, poll strategist and Captain Amarinder's principal advisor Prashant Kishor met former Congress president Rahul Gandhi at his residence in the national capital.

The party has been trying to defuse tensions between Capt Amarinder and Mr Sidhu with top leadership meeting both leaders separately several times.

Mr Sidhu has questioned Capt Amarinder's style of working and hold him guilty of not solving the sacrilege case. On the other hand, Capt Amarinder has accused Mr Sidhu of not adhering to party lines.

The tensions between the two leaders escalated when Capt Amarinder took local bodies' portfolios from Mr Sindhu. (UNI)
