Statue of Unity sculptor’s home burgled, 2 arrested; 22.6 lakh, medals and jewellery recovered

New Delhi: Two men were arrested for breaking into the Statue of Unity sculptor Ram Sutar’s home near here in Noida, the city police said on Friday.

According to the police, Mr Sutar was alone at home when the burglary took place on March 9. One of the accused Madan Mohan Das (25) was hired by the family as a domestic help just a week before the incident took place.

Additional SP Ranjvijay Singh said, “Rs 22.6 lakh, along with medals and jewellery, has been recovered from the duo. They had planned the robbery. They are connected to a larger gang that has also committed similar crimes in Bengaluru. The men, who hail from a village in Odisha, have served time in jail before.” (UNI)
