Nirmal (Telangana): A 17-year-old student of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) (IIIT-Basara) in this district allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling in his hostel room on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the student, originally from Bandarpalle in Siddipet district, was in his second year of a six-year B.Tech. course. He returned to the college on April 12 to participate in examinations after visiting his home. However, he was barred from taking the exams due to insufficient attendance.

The college authorities notified his parents of the situation and instructed them to bring him home.

Tragically, he took his own life while other students were attending the exams. His body was discovered by fellow students, who alerted the college authorities.

Upon receiving the information, the police registered a case and sent the body to Nirmal Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation is underway, the police added.
