Third accused held in sextortion case in Anantnag

Srinagar: J&K police on Saturday arrested third accused in the sextortion case in which a university student was allegedly raped and blackmailed by a self proclaimed journalist Nadeem Ahmed Ganie alias Nadeem Nadu.Ganie was taken into custody following the complaint of rape and extortion.

The third arrested person, Showkat Ahmad Ragoo of Anantnag, an employee in the Public Health Engineering department is said to be a close friend of Ganie.“Two self-styled Journalists- Nadeem Ahmed Ganie and Salman Shah have already been arrested in this case,” police said.

J&K police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the sextortion case. The south Kashmir based Ganie was arrested on October 1 after a complaint from a girl that he lured her through his WhatsApp group and forced her into a sexual relationship.

The victim was a student in an institution in Kashmir when the crime took place, the police said.(UNI)
