Agartala: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 57-year-old man in Kakraban area under Tripura’s Gomati district on Saturday while she was returning home from school.
However, police launched an investigation registering a case against the accused man and arrested him.
The villagers stormed Kakraban police station at night and demanded immediate arrest to ensure an exemplary punishment for the accused. The Officer-in-charge of Kakraban police station Rajib Bhowmik said, “The interrogation of the accused is continuing and he has been booked under Sections 341/354 of IPC and Section 8 of POCSO Act.”
Police said the minor girl, a student of Class III was allegedly stopped by the accused identified as Safik Miah on a lonely road stretch in Kishoreganj village around when she was returning home. Miah allegedly caught the traumatized child and sexually assaulted her.
She managed to run away from the spot and after returning home she narrated the horrific experience to her parents. The victim’s father immediately filed a written complaint with the police and the accused was arrested in the evening. The arrest did not reduce the rising anger; a group of protesters a night reached the police station demanding the strictest punishment for Miah.
