Tripura policeman suspended allegedly for making derogatory comments on post against CM

Agartala: A Tripura policeman has been suspended from the service allegedly for making derogatory comments in a social media post addressing Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The Superintendent of Police (Communication) suspended Supervisor (Operational) of Kailashahar Communication Station in Unakoti district yesterday and the order stated, "A disciplinary proceeding against Dipak Chakraborty is contemplated and as per Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and appeal) Rules, 1985, he is placed under suspension with immediate effect."

The order also directed that during the period of suspension he shall be at Tripura Police Communication headquarters and would not be allowed to leave without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority.

The comments made by him in social media were highly objectionable and not expected from any public servant, said a senior police officer adding that the Supreme Court did not allow anybody to make defamatory statements against the person holding constitutional post and freedom of expression doesn't intend to insult anybody.

According to report, the accused Dipak Chakraborty has been posting derogatory comments and posts in social media for last few months and he was warned earlier to restrain from such activities, as any comment or post by any policeman against CM is considered as indiscipline act, which would impact directly on law and order.

However, the victim policeman said he did not make any defamatory comment against Chief Minister but only expressed his views on certain issues, which cannot attract violation of Service Conduct Rules rather it's an utter contempt to the Supreme Court direction. (UNI)
