UP: Finance company recovery agents ‘hijacks’ bus full of passengers over non-payment of EMIs, FIR lodged

Agra: After employees of a finance company took control of a bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra allegedly over non-payment of EMIs by the owner, all passengers have been taken to safety and the bus has reached Jhansi.

Earlier, it was reported that the bus was hijacked with 34 passengers which Agra police went tizzy.

On Wednesday morning, a group of men took over a private bus that was headed to Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior from Gurugram with 34 passengers on board.

State Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avanish Awasthi said in Lucknow, that regarding the bus incident in Agra, the finance company had illegally seized the bus. Driver and passengers are safe. The owner of the bus had died yesterday, he said.

The incident took place in Malpura police station area in the wee hours of Wednesday. After asking the driver and conductor to get off, the men had driven the bus to an unknown location.

The employees of the finance firm had reportedly paid Rs 300 to the bus driver. The conductor of the bus said that a group of our men first asked the driver to get off and later, forced him into another car.

“They said that they were from the finance firm and added that the EMI payments of the bus are due. They called the owner but he did not pick up,” the bus conductor added.

SSP Agra Bablu Kumar said that a case has been registered against the finance firm and a team has been constituted to probe the incident.

Three people from Gwalior filed a complaint that the bus they were travelling in from Gurgaon to Panna was overtaken and seized by members of a finance company, that apparently financed the bus. (UNI)
