Bahraich: Six people, including four children, were electrocuted to death and two were injured when the mast of a flag came into contact with a high tension power line during Juloos-e-Mohammadi in Nanpara area on Sunday morning, police sources said here.
Police sources said on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi a procession of Juloos-e-Mohammedi was being taken out in Bhagarwa village. "As the flag reached Masupur the pole of a trolley in the procession came into contact with an 11,000 volt power line due to which six people were electrocuted," they said.
Police sources said the victims have been identified as Ashraf Ali (30), Sufiyan (12), Mohammad Ilyas (16), Tabrez (17), Arafat (10) and Idris (12). "Two persons Murad Khan (18) and Chand Babu (18) were injured in the incident and have been referred to Lucknow in serious condition," they said.
District Magistrate Dinesh Chand and Superintendent of Police (SP) Keshav Kumar reached the spot and launched relief and rescue work.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over loss of lives in the incident and while praying for the peace of departed souls has conveyed his sympathies towards the bereaved families.
He has directed the district administration to extend all possible help to the families of the deceased. (UNI)
