Firozabad (UP): A 23-year-old Dalit girl was set on fire by three persons allegedly over a financial dispute in the Dakshin area of Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that the girl was having an affair with Prabhat Rathore, a resident of Nai Basti locality, for the last eight years. "It has been alleged that during this period Prabhat took Rs 5 lakh from the victim," they said.

On Friday the victim went to Prabhat's house and demanded her money back which led to a dispute. "It is alleged that as the dispute escalated Prabhat's father Jagdish Rathore and mother Vimla Devi poured inflammable substance and set her on fire," police sources said.

On hearing the cries of the victim the neighbours rushed to the spot, extinguished the fire, and took her to the trauma centre. "Senior police officials visited the spot and inquired about the incident. The victim has been referred to Agra in a serious condition," they said.

Police sources said that on the complaint of the victim's father, a case has been lodged against Prabhat, his father Jagdish, and mother Vimla under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and SC-ST Act.
