Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board in support of Hindu saints and religious organisations have submitted a proposal in the Supreme Court for the out-of-court settlement in the vexed Ayodhya case. The five-point proposal, submitted to the apex court on November 18, proposed to construct Maszid-e-Aman in Lucknow in place of demolished Babri mosque.

The proposal, a four-page document, also gave its nod for a grand Ram Temple at Ayodhya and announced that there was no need of any new mosque in Ayodhya. The proposal has the support of Hindu saints Mahant Dharam Das, one of the stakeholders in the title suit, Mahant Ram Das of Nirmohi Akhara, Mahant Suresh Das of Digamber Akhara and VHP leader and former MP Ramvilas Das Vedanti along with Akhara Parishad chairman Narendra Giri.

The other points of the formula were that Shia waqf Board withdraws its claim on the Babri mosque and the name of the new mosque should not be on a raider like Babar and it should be Maszid-e-Aman. For the proposed new mosque, the Board has already sent a proposal to the UP government to provide the land.

Board chairman Waseem Rizvi announced the proposal in presence of Mr Giri, at a press conference on Monday and said the new mosque would be constructed in the Husdainabad area of the state capital.

"Ayodhya is a place of temples and there is no need of a mosque. The new Maszid-e-Aman in Lucknow could be built on government land in Hussainabad area of the old city in front of Ghantaghar. We will ask the government to give us one acre of land for the new mosque and it will be constructed by the funds collected from the people," Mr Rizvi said. (UNI)
