Mumbai: In a heartwarming gesture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the treatment of former Indian cricketer and coach Anshuman Gaekwad, who has been bravely battling cancer.

The decision comes after widespread appeals from the cricket fraternity and fans to support the 71-year-old legend. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has personally spoken to Gaekwad's family to offer support and comfort during this challenging time.

"The BCCI Apex Council has approved the financial assistance, and we have instructed the release of Rs 1 crore with immediate effect to support Mr. Gaekwad's treatment," Shah on Sunday.

"We stand by his family and will do everything possible to aid his speedy recovery. We are confident that he will overcome this phase and come out stronger."

Gaekwad, a renowned batsman and coach, represented India in 40 Tests and 15 ODIs between 1975 and 1987. His contributions to Indian cricket have been invaluable, and this gesture by the BCCI is a testament to the board's commitment to supporting its cricketing heroes in times of need.
