Christchurch: New Zealand has bolstered its coaching lineup with the appointment of former all-rounder Jacob Oram as the new bowling coach.

Oram, who enjoyed an illustrious international career, will step into the role on October 7, just in time for New Zealand’s upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against India.

Oram's addition to the coaching staff fills the vacancy left by Shane Jurgensen, who departed the team last year. With over 200 international appearances and experience in three ICC Men's Cricket World Cups and four ICC Men's T20 World Cups, Oram brings significant expertise to Gary Stead's team.

Previously, Oram has been involved with the Black Caps as a bowling coach during the recent T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. He also served in a similar capacity for New Zealand's women's team up until the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in 2022.

As New Zealand gears up for a challenging series against India in October, followed by a home series against England, Oram will be pivotal in guiding the team’s bowling attack. His experience will be crucial in New Zealand’s pursuit of a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final at Lord’s and a strong showing at the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Oram stated, “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Black Caps again. To be back with a team that means so much to me is a real honor. There’s a fresh new wave of talent coming through in the Black Caps bowling ranks, and I hope to share my knowledge and experience to help best prepare them for the challenges of international cricket.”
