The new electoral bonds data has revealed that the five-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings had also donated a political party through the poll bonds.
Chennai Super Kings is run by a company named 'Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited', whose parent organization is India Cement.
Former Indian team captain MS Dhoni is the captain of Chennai Super Kings in IPL. The company that owns Dhoni's team has given money to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) through electoral bonds. According to a report by The Hindu, AIADMK has received Rs 6.05 crore through electoral bonds. Most of the money came from Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited.
Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited donated Rs 5 crore to. All these funds through electoral bonds were received between April 2, and April 4, 2019, in two days. However, after this the party has not received any money from Chennai Super Kings.
Incidentally, the party had submitted the same information twice once in 2019 by then coordinator O. Panneerselvam and again in 2023 by its general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
Interestingly, the franchise owner India Cements has also donated Rs 10 crore to DMK.
