IND vs NZ: Jasprit Bumrah points at dew factor for batting collapse

IND vs NZ: Jasprit Bumrah points at dew factor for batting collapse

Dubai: India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah pointed dew factor for the batting collapse as the batters got out playing far too many shots in the first innings to give cushion to their bowlers by scoring 30-odd extra runs.

"I think our batting unit played a lot of attacking shots that didn't come off today. Our approach was to make 30-odd extra runs to cushion our bowlers in the second innings, where chasing becomes easy because of the dew factor," he told reporters at the post-match press conference here.

When India batted, the ball was holding on and coming to the bat slowly, but when New Zealand batted it came nicely on to the bat and therefore their batsmen could execute their shots exceedingly well, Bumrah said. "The dew factor has been the differentiator in the tournament so far," he emphasised.

Replying to a query on six-month long Covid pandemic bubble and being away from the family, Bumrah said these things matter, but when they are on the field, they push these aspects on the backburner.

"Absolutely, sometimes we also need a break. We miss our families sometimes, but when you are on field you don't think all about that. So, we try to adopt, but sometimes bubbles may take mental fatigue out of you," he said. (UNI)
