Singapore: India's chess sensation Gukesh Dommaraju, who created history by becoming the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion, was felicitated by the High Commission of India in Singapore, led by High Commissioner Dr Shilpak Ambule, in a special event here.
Gukesh's journey to the top has been nothing short of phenomenal. Born on May 29, 2006, in Chennai, India, Gukesh learned to play chess at the age of seven and quickly rose through the ranks. He became a grandmaster at just 12 years old, making him the third-youngest grandmaster in chess history.
Gukesh's recent win in the World Chess Championship match, where he defeated China's Ding Liren, has earned him the title of World Chess Champion.
When asked about his achievement, Gukesh shared his excitement, saying, "It is a special moment in my life.”
When asked about the attention he will receive back home, Gukesh smiled and said, "I am ready to go with the flow. I am focused on my game and will take things as they come."
Gukesh's humility and dedication to his craft have made him a hero and a role model for young chess players across India.
