IPL suspended indefinitely amid India-Pakistan tension

New Delhi: The remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely in the wake of escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, reliable sources confirmed on Friday.

While an official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaited, all ten franchises and key stakeholders have been informed of the decision.

Player and personnel safety have been cited as the overriding concern behind the suspension, it is learnt.

The development follows Thursday’s abandoned fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, which was called off amid rising security apprehensions linked to the prevailing geopolitical situation.

This marks the first major disruption to the tournament since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The 2025 edition, which was scheduled to begin in early April and run through late May, had already faced delays in fixture announcements and logistical planning.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, speaking earlier, said the board was closely monitoring the situation and any final decision would be taken in consultation with the Central government.

"We are reviewing the situation. It's evolving, and we haven't received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind," Dhumal told media.
