Paris: In an exhilarating match at the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Serbian tennis icon Novak Djokovic clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The top-seeded player triumphed over Germany's Dominik Koepfer with a solid 7-5, 6-3 victory in the men's singles third round on Wednesday.

Djokovic, an Olympic bronze medalist and 24-time Grand Slam champion, showcased his prowess and experience on the court. His commanding performance followed a remarkable straight-sets win against Beijing 2008 gold medalist Rafael Nadal in the previous round. The Serbian star is now poised to continue his quest for a maiden Olympic gold medal.

Awaiting Djokovic in the quarterfinals is a highly anticipated matchup with Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas. The eighth seed has been in stellar form, defeating Daniel Evans, Zizou Bergs, and Sebastian Baez en route to the last eight. Tsitsipas, a six-time Grand Slam semifinalist, will aim to challenge the top seed and keep his Olympic dreams alive.

At 25, Tsitsipas is one of the sport's rising stars, but he faces a formidable opponent in the 37-year-old Djokovic, who is determined to add an Olympic gold to his storied career.

In other tournament news, reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz will take on the USA's Tommy Paul, seeded ninth, in another thrilling quarterfinal showdown. As the tournament advances into its final stages, the competition intensifies, with anticipation building around who will emerge victorious.
