Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans have signed Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The wicketkeeper-batter from Afghanistan joins the new IPL team as a replacement for England's Jason Roy.

Gurbaz, who went unsold at the IPL auction, has been picked at his base price of Rs 50 lakh, ESPNcricinfo reported.

It will be Gurbaz's first IPL stint. He also becomes the third Afghanistan player to join Gujarat Titans after Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad.

The franchise was forced to look for a replacement after Roy pulled out of the tournament, citing the challenge of staying in an extended bio-secure bubble.

The English player was bought by Gujarat Titans at the auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

Gujarat Titans' squad will assemble in Ahmedabad on March 13 for a preparatory camp at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

They will begin their IPL campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 28 in Mumbai. (UNI)
