New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Badminton Association of India, on a Public Interest Litigation through senior advocate and former Union Law Minister, Shanti Bhushan, seeking a uniform code, like cricket, by which ministers should be barred from holding posts in sports associations, as was applied to the BBCI.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and also comprising Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice D Y Chandrachud, after hearing the PIL, decided to examine whether BAI can have Assam BJP Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as its President. Seeking removal of Mr Sarma from the post of President of BAI, the PIL also sought that the BAI be reformed like BCCI and also on the lines of cricket. The PIL also sought the intervention and a direction to bar politicians, bureaucrats from holding offices in the BAI. (UNI)
