New Delhi: As the nation is celebrating the 76th Independence Day under the banner of Azadi ka Amrit on Monday, the Indian sports fraternity extended their wishes on social media on Monday.

Leading sports personalities across disciplines -- P R Sreejesh, Rani Rampal, Mithali Raj, Lakshya Sen, Nikhat Zareen and Rohit Sharma and others -- joined the national celebration on the momentous occasion of completing the 75 years of Independence.

"Playing for India was a dream and also a huge responsibility to give my best for the nation. It was a proud feeling that I'll always cherish. As our nation completes 75 years of independence, let's strive harder to reach new heights," former women cricket captain Mithali said.

Young badminton sensation Lakshya wrote on Twitter: "It's an honor to represent my motherland. Couldn't have asked for anything other than being born in this amazing country. India, you make me what I am. Wishing everyone a very happy independence day."

Reigning world champion boxer Nikhat tweeted: "It's an unparalleled feeling to represent my beloved and make her stand tall amongst other nations. May the future bring more glory to our great nation. Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day.
