Ahmedabad: Ruturaj Gaikwad on Monday scripted history after becoming the first batter in limited-overs cricket to score seven sixes in a single over during a quarterfinal match of Vijay Hazare Trophy here at the Narendra Modi Stadium B ground.
Gaikwad smashed seven sixes in the 49th over of the innings bowled by Shiva Singh, collecting 43 runs in the over.
The 25-year-old batter scored a scintillating unbeaten double century (220) in the second quarterfinal against Uttar Pradesh. The right-hand batter struck 10 fours and 16 sixes in his 159-ball knock.
This is Gaikwad's second century of the tournament. He had previously scored unbeaten 124 against Railways on November 12.
The Chennai Super Kings batter put on a partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket with Ankit Bawne, and followed that up with another crucial 146-run stand with Azim Kazi for the fourth wicket to help Maharashtra post a total of 330/5 in their 50 overs.(UNI)
