Yashasvi Jaiswal third youngest Indian after Gavaskar, Kambli to hit Test double ton

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden double century in Test cricket on Day 2 of the second Test match against England here on Saturday.Jaiswal smacked a six and a boundary off spinner Shoaib Bashir to bring up his double ton in 277 balls.

He also became the third youngest Indian to achieve this proud feat. The youngest Indian to score a double hundred is Vinod Kambli, who achieved the feat against England at Wankhede Stadium in 1993 when he was 21 years and 35 days old.

Kambli also stood at the No.2 position at 21 years and 55 days when he cracked his second double hundred against Zimbabwe in Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla in 1993.

The second youngest Indian batsman to score double hundred is batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar scored his maiden double hundred at the age of 21 years and 283 days against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971.

The youngest double centurion in Test history is Javed Miandad, who achieved his feat at the age of 19 years and 140 days.Jaiswal is also the fourth left-handed batsman to score a Test double-century. Vinod Kambli, Sourav Ganguly and Gautam Gambhir were the previous three to achieve the feat.

The Mumbaikar showed great character despite wickets falling at the other end as he trusted his processes and maintained discipline with changing pitch conditions and the ball doing tricks as it turned old and rough.

Jaiswal's stellar performance helped India anchor to a commanding position, as no other batsmen could even score a half-century in the innings. He not only essayed ground strokes but also aerial shots, which he exhibited against spinners Tom Hartley and Bashir.(UNI)
