After becoming Twitter's top shareholder, Elon Musk starts poll on edit button, CEO Parag Agrawal says ‘Consequences of this poll will be important’

Hours after becoming Twitter's largest shareholder, Tesla boss Elon Musk on Monday started a poll asking users if they want the microblogging platform to have an edit button.

Twitteratis are divided over the introduction of an edit button. In the support, one user said: “Yes, as long as the edit history can be checked.” Another user said: “Under two conditions. It’s only available for a few minutes, 5-10 mins. And when an edit is made, there’s a small link that shows the edit. This keeps a public record but allows the tweeter the ability to fix a simple mistake and not re-notify their followers with a new tweet”.

However, opposing the edit button one user said: “Twitter is seen as a news source, if there's an edit button. It'll be very easy to spread misinformation, which defeats the purpose.”

Another user said: “The fundamental issue with an edit button is it can be corrupted. You can tweet something, garner responses and shares based on that tweet, then change the content of the tweet. Not sure that’s a good idea…”

On April 1, Twitter had tweeted that it was working on the long-awaited “edit” feature. When asked if the tweet was a joke, the company had then said, “We cannot confirm or deny but we may edit our statement later.”
