Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress took strong exception to an alleged remark by BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and urged the Election Commission of India to look into this matter with seriousness and take immediate action for the same.
Reacting sharply to a purported clip doing rounds on social media and also shared by the ruling party in Bengal on X, the Trinamool Congress said, "Vile comments made by @BJP4Bengal's leader @DilipGhoshBJP which were directed towards Smt. @mamataofficial crossed all boundaries of decency and is in severe violation of the Model Code of Conduct."
"We urge the @ECISVEEP to look into this matter with seriousness and take immediate action for the same, " the party stated.
Party leader Sushmita Dev said, "@DilipGhoshBJP's derogatory remarks about India's only woman Chief Minister go against the culture of our country. Why is @NCWIndia eerily silent in the face of such repulsive remarks from a BJP leader?"
"BJP hates Naari and it is crystal clear. The people will deliver a resounding answer against such vile misogyny in the upcoming 2024 elections," she commented.
Party LS candidate Kirti Azad said, "Our MP candidate from Bardhaman-Durgapur @KirtiAzaad strongly condemns the misogynistic comments passed by @DilipGhoshBJP to demean Smt. @mamataofficial, the only FEMALE CM in India."
"Dilip Ghosh, who previously questioned the lineage of Maa Durga is a stain on the sacred soil of Bengal.The people of Bengal shall not tolerate such behaviour," he added.
State Minister Shashi Panja said, "@DilipGhoshBJP's reprehensible antics sink even lower. Following Pawan Singh, BJP handpicks yet another misogynist MP candidate, reaffirming their ANTI-WOMEN stance."
State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said, "How dare @DilipGhoshBJP, an MP himself, stoop to questioning the ancestry of Smt. @MamataOfficial?"
"She's not just any woman; she's a 7-time MP, former Union Railway Minister and a 3-time Chief Minister, the sole woman holding such a position in India today," she added.
"Ghosh has time and again disrespected the women of Bengal. The people will give him a befitting reply," she averred.
