Purnea: In an unusual step to control crime, the Bihar government may give the police a free hand to shoot down criminals carrying illegal firearms.
Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dilip Jaiswal, while addressing a public meeting on Wednesday in favour of NDA candidate for by-election in Rupauli assembly, said anybody spotted carrying unauthorised firearms in the state would be shot dead by the police.
"A decision has been taken to constitute Special Investigation Team (SIT) in every district of Bihar to keep strict vigil on those carrying unauthorised firearms," Jaiswal said, adding that police will have a free hand to shoot down anyone carrying illegal firearms.
Under no circumstances, safety and security of people would be compromised, he added.
"In Bihar, there is rule of poor people and no lawlessness will be tolerated," the Minister said.
His remarks came in the backdrop of the recent murder of businessman Gopal Yaduka in Rupauli.
The by-election in Rupauli assembly constituency is slated for July 10.
