Childbirth is the happiest moment in a woman's life, but it turned into a nightmare for a Chinese woman after she gave birth to a dark-skinned baby.

A 30-year-old woman from Shanghai narrated her story on social media.

She wrote: “When my husband saw our baby for the first time, he just stared at him with bewildered eyes,” the woman wrote. “He refused to hold him and looked at me as if I had done something wrong.”

She also admitted feeling uncomfortable herself upon seeing her child’s darker-than-expected skin tone.

“I’ve never been to Africa, and I don’t know any black people,” she said.

The husband demanded a paternity test, casting doubt on the child’s parentage.

“Not only did he refuse to celebrate the arrival of our son, but he also made me feel like I had betrayed him,” the woman said. “I agreed to the test because I know he is the father, but the trust in our marriage has already been shattered.”

“This is not how I imagined starting our family,” she added.

The post quickly went viral, sparking a heated debate online. Some users came to the woman’s defence.

A user wrote: “Newborns can have darker skin at birth, but it typically lightens over time. Your husband needs to be patient and supportive.”

Some also criticised the husband’s attitude.

“This is about more than skin colour. Your husband should be standing by you, not questioning you in your most vulnerable moment,” a user said.
