A US mother has been jailed for killing her four-year-old diabetic daughter by feeding her bottles filled with Mountain Dew.
41-year-old Tamara Banks was sentenced to up to 13 and a half years in prison for involuntary manslaughter over the death of her daughter in January 2022.
53-year-old Christopher Hoeb, girl’s father, also pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and is set to be sentenced on June 11.
On January 21, 2022, the parents called 911 when she turned blue and stopped breathing and she was taken to a hospital, where she was declared brain dead and taken off life support.
According to the prosecution, the little girl died due to malnutrition and lack of proper medical care. It was found that the girl's cause of death was diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition that affects people with diabetes.
Prosecutors said Banks and Hoeb fed their daughter mostly Mountain Dew from a baby bottle. They added that the 4-year-old had almost no teeth left in her mouth at the time of her death as they all were rotten.
