A sensational case has come to light in Bihar. A youth attempted suicide because of the social stigma he faced over impotency allegations by his wife.

The incident was reported from a village in Nathnagar block of Bhagalpur district, where a young resident was married to a woman on 5 May. But just a week after the marriage, the bride called her mother and told that her husband is impotent and she left her in-laws' house and went to her parents' house.

The woman's family asked the man to get himself treated by a doctor. After some persuasion, the girl was sent back to her husband’s home. But the situation got worse. The girl decided to hold a panchayat. In the panchayat held on 7th and 22nd June, without even conducting a medical examination of the boy, it was declared that the man is impotent. He will have to leave his wife, along with that he will have to pay Rs 80,000 and also return the jewellery received at the time of marriage.

The young man was shocked by the decision taken by the Panchayat. Meanwhile, he got himself examined by a doctor in the city. The doctor told him that he was not impotent; he only had weakness, which would be cured by taking medicine. Then he showed the report to the people of the society, but no one believed him calling the report ‘fake’.

Depressed over the taunts of the people, he tried to commit suicide on Thursday by drinking washing powder with other chemicals. When his health deteriorated and he started vomiting, he was rushed to the Hospital, where he is being treated.
