In one of its kind incident of animal cruelty, a man in Pakistan chopped off a camel’s leg as punishment for foraging into his field for fodder and shared a video clip, holding the mutilated limb.
The gruesome incident took place in Mund Jamrao village of Sanghar district last weekend.
The video caused uproar on the social media. Animal rights organisations and the public demanded the government take action against the landlord.
The landlord and five of his servants were detained.
The owner of the camel did not report the matter to the police. He was contacted by authorities after the matter came to light.
The animal was immediately moved to the Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) shelter in Karachi, said Secretary Livestock Kazim Jato, following his visit to the shelter at the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
“A prosthetic leg has been ordered from Dubai for the camel,” Jato added.
