Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif Faces Backlash for ‘Copy-Paste’ Post; Did Draft Come from the US?

Advertiesment

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has come under fire after a controversial post on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the Middle East ceasefire. While Pakistan claimed credit for helping halt the conflict, Sharif’s post sparked embarrassment and questions about its authenticity.

Sharif appealed to former US President Donald Trump to refrain from threats against Iran. However, social media users noted that the initial draft of his appeal appeared to have been prepared outside Pakistan, leading to speculation and ridicule online.

Interestingly, a minute before the final post went live, another draft appeared with the note: “Draft: Pakistan PM's Message on X.” This fueled speculation over whether the draft originated from the US or another foreign source.

Although the tweet was later edited, observers suggested that Pakistan’s messaging seemed directed by someone else. Analysts speculate that the post could have been drafted in the US or Israel, given that Sharif’s own staff would unlikely refer to him as “Pakistan’s PM” in such a formal manner.

The incident has led to widespread criticism on social media, raising questions about Pakistan’s communication strategy and its handling of international diplomacy online.
